Halloween at Disneyland Guide

Disneyland has released some information about Halloween time at the Disneyland Resort for 2024, so I had to share!  Running from August 23rd-October 31st 2024, Halloween Time is one of the best and most popular times to visit Disneyland! It is super family friendly, fun and spooky.  You will find Halloween celebrated throughout the entire resort, including Disneyland, California Adventure, Downtown Disney and even the Resort Hotels!  And Halloween Time celebrations are included with your regular theme park admission with the exception of Oogie Boogie Bash.

Disneyland Halloween Time Celebrations

• Haunted Mansion Holiday

*There is a little bit of a change happening with this ride this year.  Haunted Mansion is currently undergoing a huge refurbishment. They are changing the queue and adding a gift shop as well!  As of right now, there hasn’t been an opening day announced but Disneyland has said that it will be opened by the fall season and when it is opened it will be by virtual queue only.  So as soon as an official announcement comes on an opening date, I will update it here! 

The classic favorite Haunted Mansion is turned into Haunted Mansion Holiday. Featuring all of your favorite characters from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. Haunted Mansion Holiday runs from August 23rd through early January. This is an all time favorite and can only be found at Disneyland Resort.  And you can’t miss it!

• Dia de los Muertos

Find your favorite Coco inspired homage to Dia de los Muertos in Frontierland. August 23rd-November 2nd.

• Mickey Jack-o-Lantern

One of the most popular photo locations during Halloween Time.  Located right as you walk onto Main Street, USA.  And don’t forget to checkout the hand-carved pumpkins down Main Street, U.S.A.

• Disney Characters in Costume

It is so much fun to see all of the Characters at Disneyland decked out in their Halloween costumes!  And you may also see some special characters that aren’t usually around (Hint: they’re from Nightmare Before Christmas)

• Halloween treats and merchandise

Seasonal treats and merchandise are so much fun!  So make sure to check out all of the shops for Halloween themed everything from shirts to Minnie Ears and so much more!  And grab some yummy Halloween snacks like macarons, churros, caramel apples and pumpkin everything!

• Halloween Screams

Available to all park guests in Disneyland Resort, Halloween Screams is a nightly projection and special effects show and includes fireworks show on select nights only.  Check out entertainment schedule for dates and showtimes.

• Incredible Halloween Decor 

Disney spares no expense when it comes to decor and Halloween is no exception!  You will find pumpkins and Halloween Decor everywhere and so many Halloween photo-ops! Don’t miss out on the Giant Mickey Jack-o-Lantern, Dia de los Muertos display, Haunted Mansion Holiday exterior and Halloween Tree in Frontier Land!

Disney California Adventure Halloween Time Celebrations

• Radiator Screams

Cars Land is one of the most fun parts of California Adventure! During Halloween Time, Radiator Springs is transformed into Radiator Screams is spooky decor and rides.  Be sure to check out these fun attractions with a Halloween makeover only in Cars Land!

• Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree
• Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-o-Ween
• Mater and Lightning McQueen– Be sure to find these characters and admire their spooky costumes!

• Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters after Dark

Just like the name, after dark this attraction gets a little bit spookier.  The ride is darker and the music is different. You definitely don’t want to miss it!  Only available during Halloween Time and in late afternoons/evenings. And a bonus tip: you can use your Genie+ to book a Lightning Lane for both regular Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: BREAKOUT! and Guardians of the Galaxy Monsters after Dark in the same day!

• Disney Characters in costume

In California Adventure you will find all of the characters in their costumes as well.  Each costume will be different in each park! See if you can find as many characters as you can!

• Plaza de la Familia

Enjoy “A Musical Celebration of Coco” throughout the day over at Paradise Gardens on the Plaza de la Familia.  And you can also experience food, meet Miguel, dance along with Mariachi music, add remembrance notes to the Memory Wall and make some decor and crafts and other Coco themed experiences.

Also, in Cars Land, Romone will honor Dia de Los Muertos at his detailing shop with an offend celebrating Doc Hudson. Be sure to check that out!

• Incredible Halloween Decor

Just like at Disneyland, you’ll find the most amazing Halloween Decor in California Adventure! Look for Halloween photo-ops such as Oogie Boogie Entrance, Headless Horseman Statue on Buena Vista Street, everything in Cars Land, Tree of Life at the Plaza de la Familia and of course all of the Disney Characters!

• Seasonal Menu Items

Seasonal menu items are available at California Adventure including cocktails during Halloween Time. You will also find lots of pumpkin flavored treats and special menu items at the most popular restaurants throughout both parks and Downtown Disney. Disneyland usually releases a “Foodie Guide” for each year to highlight the seasonal menu items and locations.

Oogie Boogie Bash

Wear your favorite Disney costume and be ready to party at the Oogie Boogie Bash! The Oogie Boogie Bash is a fun, spooky, family friendly Halloween party happening at California Adventure on select nights throughout September and October. Oogie Boogie Bash is a special ticketed event and you will not be able to attend with your regular Disneyland or California Adventure admission.

Oogie Boogie Bash guests may enjoy California Adventure up to 3 hours before the party! The party begins at 6pm and runs until 11pm, which means guest may enter California Adventure at 3pm the day of the event. And included in the special event is Halloween-themed attractions, entertainment and parades, costumed characters, and spooky, immersive trick or treating trails!

Tickets go on sale June 25th for Inspire Magic Key Holders, June 26th for all of there Magic Key Holders and June 27th for the general public at 9am Disneyland time. And ticket prices range from $134-$189 per guest depending on date. You don’t need an additional park ticket or reservation for the parks that day unless you want to enter the park earlier than 3pm on the day of the party.

September 3, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26 and 29

October 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 27, 29 and 31

Here is what you can expect at Oogie Boogie Bash this year!

• Early admission to the parks- Enter the park at 3pm on the day of the party.
• Immersive Treat Trails- Collect goodies and meet villains along the trails!  Along with Halloween music, fun decor and more!
• Frightfully Fun Parade- Don’t miss this cavalcade starring Mickey, Minnie and some favorite Disney villains!
• Mickey’s Trick and Treat- A live show filled with not-so-scary Halloween tales.
• Villains Grove- Explore Redwood Creek Trail and watch the worlds villains come to life!
• Character Experiences- Meet the most popular Disney characters in their Halloween costumes.
• Commemorative Keepsakes- receive unlimited PhotoPass downloads from 6-11pm during the party.

Tips for you Disneyland Trip

• Halloween Time is a great time to purchase a Park Hopper ticket.  If you are not attending the Oogie Boogie Bash, and you are visiting California Adventure on a day of a party, you will have to leave once the party begins at 6pm.  But if you have a Park Hopper ticket, you can hop on over to Disneyland for the rest of the evening.
•  Purchase Genie+. Disney Genie+ is an upgraded feature that allows anyone who purchases it to receive access to the Lightning Lane (shorter line) to specific rides.
• If you’re planning to visit Disneyland during Halloween Time, I highly suggest purchasing a 3 day or more Park Hopper ticket. Then you can really take advantage of all there is to do at the resort during this exciting time of year!
• September is a great time to visit for lower crowd sizes!
